“Celebrations” Auction Brings in Record Money
Elodie Nix

March 9, 2019 marked a special day at Baylor with almost two years of planning, obsessing over small details, and searching tirelessly for a variety of world class auction items culminated in the school’s biennial auction, Celebrations! Over 650 attendees celebrated the event that benefits The Baylor Fund, which enhances the Baylor experience for years. The auction is a special event that involves hundreds of Baylor parents, alumni, faculty, and friends.

The Baylor Fund is an unrestricted annual fund used for a variety of things: faculty development, scholarships, financial aid, arts, boarding life, athletics, or anything else that presents itself. While the night of the live auctionis the most heralded event, Celebrations! is a year-long fundraiser comprised of the Art Uncorked auction, class projects, the online auction, a raffle, a wine pull, and advertising for the auction catalog—all culminating with the super silent and live auctions. These combined components netted the highest sum on record, surpassing the 2017 auction by several hundred thousand dollars.

One of the items up for bid at this year’s live auction was four nights at a luxurious Costa Rican hotel where the winner could spend their days deep sea fishing and relaxing by the beach. Another top item for sale was a fishing trip where the winner would be flown by private jet to Pompano Beach to spend two days fishing aboard a 36-foot Invincible Center Console. These are just two examples of the hundreds of items put up for bid at this year’s auction that will enable Baylor to continue being the prestigious school and experience it is.
