Sports Day Camps

Baylor Sports Camps 2019

June 3 – July 26 (see individual dates for each sport)

At Baylor, we offer competitive opportunities for young athletes to develop their sports skills. Our camps are directed by our varsity coaches whose programs are ranked third in MaxPreps national rankings. Highly individualized instruction helps athletes develop across every level to increase both confidence and ability.

June 3-7

Girls' Basketball

  • Girls head varsity coach John Gibson will work with players in developing individual and team skills with an emphasis on ball handling, shooting, and rebounding. Camp will conclude with a scrimmage and various afternoon competitions. – Ages: 7 - 13
  • What to Bring: Comfortable athletic clothing (Shorts and T-shirt), Tennis Shoes or Basketball Shoes, and a Water Bottle.
  • Where to Go: Drop off: 1:00 pm, in front of the Field House. Please follow the signs marked for Basketball Camp. Pick up: 4:00 pm, Please meet (and sign your camper out) at the table up in the same location as morning drop off.

Cheerleading

  • Baylor varsity coach Mindy Kral will provide fundamental to intermediate instruction on every aspect of cheering; including basic cheers, dance movements, and basic tumbling. Campers participate in various spirit competitions, paint signs, and develop a new cheer for the week. Campers will have the opportunity to come back to campus in September and cheer with the Varsity Cheer Team at halftime of a home football game. – Ages: 7- 13
  • What to Bring: Comfortable athletic clothing (Shorts, skorts, T-shirt, or cheer outfit), Tennis Shoes, Water Bottle, Snack, Swim suit and towel.

Soccer

  • Junior Academy: The Junior Soccer Academy is a fast-paced, fun- oriented camp designed specifically for younger players. Drills and activities help campers develop skills while learning fundamentals of the game. – Ages: 5-6
  • Recreational Academy: The Recreational Soccer Academy is designed for elementary aged players. Drills and activities help rising stars begin or continue to develop individual skills while learning tactics and fundamentals of the game. Qualified coaches will demonstrate and teach skills and proper techniques for all aspects of the game. All players train in their appropriate age levels. – Ages: 7- 10
  • Advanced Academy: Serious, club-level players will find this camp provides a competitive environment and highly qualified coaches to teach technical, tactical and positional training in all areas of the game. All players train in their appropriate age and skill levels. Teams are welcome to attend for a group discount. *Previous soccer experience is necessary. *- Ages: 9 to 15
  • What to bring: Comfortable athletic clothing (Shorts and T-shirt), Running shoes, Soccer Gear (cleats, shin guards, a change of socks, water bottle, etc. ), Soccer Ball, Sunscreen.

  • Pricing: Junior Academy: $125 (Half Day only), Recreational Academy: $175 (Half Day only), Advanced Academy: $175/$250 (Half Day/Full Day).

Softball

  • Head varsity coach Kelli Smith and members of the 2018 State Championship team will introduce girls to the fundamental and intermediate skills of Softball. The main focus is on team play, as well as developing and improving individual hitting, pitching, and fielding skills. Camp will conclude with several contests and mini-competitions. – Ages: 7- 13
  • What to Bring: Comfortable athletic clothing (Shorts and T-shirt), Tennis/flat-bottomed shoes, Softball Gear (glove, cleats, bat, helmet, etc.), Water Bottle, Snack, Swim suit and towel, Sunscreen.

Triathlon Camp

Baylor will offer its first Triathlon training camp this summer! Chattanooga has become the backdrop to many Ironman races and there is no better place for young, aspiring triathletes to train than on Baylor’s beautiful 690- acre campus! Athletes ages 9 to 14 will get the chance to work with local triathletes and their expert coaches and receive instruction on swimming, cycling and running technique, bike safety and maintenance, and transition/nutrition. After training and lots of fun and games, athletes will get to put their new skills to the test and race!

    *Lunch will be provided by Baylor.

    *Participants must be able to swim one lap of a pool (25 meters), run one lap of a track (1/4 mile), and bike one mile. Each participant must have his/her own bike and helmet.

    Athletes ages 9 to 14 will get the chance to work with local triathletes and their expert coaches and receive instruction from the TRY KIDZ organization on swimming, cycling and running technique, bike safety and maintenance, and transition/nutrition.

    Ages: 9-14

    The Baylor Summer Tennis Camp will provide professional tennis clinics combined with the most summer fun that any child could ask for. It will provide an opportunity for those who never played before to learn to play tennis. For experienced players, it will focus and improve tennis skills through exceptional instructions and match practices. Baylor Tennis Camp is ideal for every age and ability from beginners to high school varsity players. All campers will be grouped according to their age and ability.

    June 10-14

    Baseball

    • Varsity Coach Mike Kinney and members of the 2018 State Championship Baylor baseball team will teach and demonstrate drill and games that build offensive and defensive fundamentals of the game. Emphasis is placed of proper techniques of hitting, pitching, and fielding. – Ages 7- 12

    • Head Coach Anders Swanson introduces the sport of rowing in a week-long program with instruction both on and off the water. The camp will utilize Baylor’s boathouse located on campus next to the Tennessee River, as well as the team’s dry land training space in the Field House.- Ages: 12-14
    • What to Bring: Sunscreen, water bottle, and athletic shoes.
    • Where to Go: Drop off: 9:30 am, at the Baylor boathouse. Please follow the signs to the lower fields that are marked crew camp. Pick up: Noon, please meet (and sign your camper out) at the boathouse.
    • Pricing: $250

    Football

    • Head varsity coach Phil Massey and his assistants provide a great camp for player position work and offers a great opportunity for a “tune up” before the fall season. The coaches have developed a program that is well balance with instruction, skill development, and opportunities to play flag football games. – Ages: 7- 13
    • What to Bring: Comfortable athletic clothing (Shorts and T-shirt), Tennis Shoes or Football Cleats, Water Bottle, Snack, Swim suit and towel, Sunscreen.
    • Where to Go: Drop Off: 9:00 am. Please follow signs to Heywood/ Etter Football Stadium. Pick Up: Noon, Please meet (and sign your camper out) at the same place as morning drop off.
    • Pricing: $175

    Performance Training

    • Baylor’s strength coaches are the best team in their division and have helped produce 96 college athletes in 14 different sports in the last 3 years. During our Performance Training camps, our own strength coaches will introduce young athletes to proper training techniques that have given Baylor athletes an extra competitive edge in their sport. Campers will run through a strength combine at the beginning and end of camp to assess their skill level and areas of improvement. Throughout the week athletes will gain knowledge about lifting, running technique, and injury prevention. - Ages: 7 - 13
    • What to Bring: Comfortable athletic clothing (Shorts and T-shirt), Tennis Shoes, and a Water Bottle.

    • Track coach Bill McMahan will focus on proper running technique and flexibility drills. Each activity is designed to increase speed and strength for any sport. - Ages: 7- 13

Emphasis will be placed on proper offensive and defensive skill and techniques. Campers will compete in contests and a quick round robin tournament at the end of the week.

    • Baylor varsity coach Gary Partrick and members of Baylor’s championship golf team will introduce fundamentals and help develop individual skills. Conveniently located in the Hall of Fame Short Game Center on Baylor’s campus, this camp teaches proper grip, stance, and swing while emphasizing sportsmanship, etiquette, and rules of the game. Campers will also have the opportunity to get on course experience playing with the teaching pros at Moccasin Bend and Black Creek.
    • Ages: 10-12
    • What to Bring: Dress for weather- comfortable athletic clothing (golf attire), running shoes, clubs, water bottle, and sunscreen.

    Boys' Lacrosse

    • Baylor’s lacrosse camp is designed for the serious lacrosse player who desires a highly competitive and informational training experience. All aspects of the sport will be covered. Tom Kates, the varsity boys head coach, has served as the head coach at Pace Academy in Atlanta and was as assistant coach for the number one ranked high school team in the nation at Haverford. He is a graduate of St. Paul’s School where he served as dorm proctor and was co-captain of the varsity lacrosse and soccer teams. At Baylor, he teaches history and lives on campus with his family.
    • What to Bring: Dress for weather- comfortable, athletic clothing (shorts and t-shirts) and sneakers, lacrosse gear (cleats, pads, stick, helmet, water bottle, etc..), swim suit and towel, and sunscreen.

      Mountain Biking Camp

      Baylor takes mountain biking to the next level! Campers will become familiar with local trails while learning bike repair and maintenance, and bike storage is provided on campus in a covered/locked facility. While campers are encouraged to bring their own bikes, Baylor bike rentals are available for $30/week. Please note that Baylor bikes are limited and will be rented on a first come/first serve basis. Camper’s provide their own helmets.

      Where to Go: Drop off: 6:30 p.m., at Heywood Stadium. Please follow the signs marked for Football Camp. Pick up: 6:30 p.m.

      Cross Country

      Date: July 17-19

      Baylor is teaming up with the TRY KIDZ organization to bring a fun and informative cross country camp to all young runners. During the 3-day camp, athletes will learn the fundamentals of running and muscular training from Chattanooga’s best coaches while playing games and running races. Come join us for a fast, fun week of running!

      What to Bring: Comfortable athletic clothing (shorts and t-shirt), runniing shoes, and a water bottle.
      Where to Go: Drop off: 9:00 a.m., in front of the Field House. Please follow the signs marked for Cross Country Camp. Pick up:noon.
