Health and Wellness Curriculum
Middle School Curriculum
The middle school wellness curriculum covers three primary areas: emotional well-being, social well-being, and physical well-being. Topics discussed include values, stress, relationships, communication, peer and media influences, sexuality, nutrition, and substance awareness. The focus is on individual wellness as well as understanding and assessing personal risks/consequences with regards to the three primary areas. Our goal is is to provide an opportunity for students to practice health-promoting skills in a safe environment as they continue to develop and grow.
Upper School Curriculum
Baylor’s Life Skills course allows and guides student analysis and discussion of issues that face young adults today. Both 9th and 11th grade students are required to take Life Skills class. This class emphasizes good decision-making, critical thinking and respect of self and others. Throughout this course, students evaluate their own values as well as our society’s values around many different issues. The students will explore information about societal issues with the goal of developing positive and healthy life skills for high school and beyond. The areas of exploration include but are not limited to: stress management, relationships, digital citizenship, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, and sexual health.
