Traveling up and up and up. Here you are, atop the quiet peaks looking out over the bustling seaports of Seward, Alaska. The journey to get here was long; you climbed steep inclines, slipped on loose gravel, and baked in the hot sun, but you made it here and you observe the beast you just conquered. Making it out of the jungle full of buzzing flies and mysterious sounds, you find peace. With emerald water and tiny toy ships in your eyes you feel like a king looking out over your land, but it is not your land and you are still the small person you were before this journey, but in this instant you feel bigger than yourself. You have to remove yourself from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to fully appreciate this experience. Up on this mountain you see the tiny town below, you are an observer, but there is no way to know what is going on down in that tiny town you just climbed away from. Across the water, you see the mountains dusted with snow. Is there another person atop those mountains experiencing the same thing as you? You’ll never know, but it doesn’t matter; you find peace in the serenity provided by the mountain. Focus on what’s around you— the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, and the whistling of the wind. You are here.
