Holi
Alisha Chandra

As spring arrives, it brings along with it Holi

The Indian festival of color and love,

The one day when all adults become children again, smearing colored pigment onto their faces

Shouts of glee and ecstasy fill the air

As kaleidoscopic powder explodes from every nook and cranny

Forming a bright cloud of tinted dust above my head

Staining everything vivid, rich shades every tint of the rainbow

As loud shouts of Holi Hai! accost my ears,

I grab a handful of gulal, colored powder

And launch it high into the air,

Then watch as it slowly arcs into the blue,

A bright stream of yellow, joining the mélange of hues that has risen above me

A brilliant contrast against the bright azure sky.
