There's a piece of me

That fell away

Last time I fell

From the fight.

I've been looking for it,

Searching,

Hoping to put it aright.

There's been something not quite right in my head

Since I last fell from the fight.

I thought maybe it had also dropped dead.

Like my mind and my will to survive.

I took a walk some brisk summer's eve

Searching in all the usual places

When among the names on the wall

I saw one not alike the other faces

The name read one that mirrored my own

And I thought maybe this small piece of stone

Was the one I had missed for so long.

The placement was certainly wrong.

I could feel a hole in the middle of my soul

Of similar shape; yes, it had been misplaced.

No matter; I'll return it to its shed,

Giving life to the one once thought dead.
