thats what she said thats what she said

different she said with a very special something

i used to do my homework backstage

long division in the greenroom

play cards with the manager while she smoked a cigarette

blue hair tied up tight, headset buzzing when she laughed

i love you a bushel and a peck

bet your pretty neck i do

used to see my mom kissing strangers

watched my dad die one hundred times

but my mom was better at dying

dad better at laughing

mama mia here i go again

my my just how much ive missed you

i never said hello to broadway

the quiet places empty theatres more sweet and silent and mysterious

than the lights always flashing and the chitterchatterers

flocking in and out and on to the statue of liberty

stars hide your fires

let not light see my dark and deep desires

the ghostlit ones were my favorite

spirits dying over and over each night

the tears of a player crying for himself

are the most genuine.

i never said hello to broadway

until i had to say goodbye.
