Middle School Summer Reading Information

Information on the Middle School's summer reading program is posted here as well as in the Hedge's Library page in myBaylor.  The purpose of summer reading at Baylor is to encourage students to develop a life-long habit of reading, echo the students’ classroom learning experiences, and provide opportunities for students to read classics and other texts that expand their perspectives and stimulate interest in the world around them.

The Baylor Spirit Store does not keep a selection of summer reading books in stock. All titles can be found in the Hedges Library (limited copies), your local library branch, online, or in book stores.

Sixth Grade
All sixth grade students are required to read three books: Out of My Mind, by Sharon Draper, and two additional books from the sixth grade directed reading list that is posted in myBaylor and also available by clicking here. Students should not select any texts that they have previously read, and students should submit the reading log (also posted in myBaylor) to their English teachers when they return to school in August.

Seventh Grade
All seventh grade students are required to read three books over the summer from the seventh grade directed reading list that is posted in myBaylor and also available by clicking here. Students should not select any texts that they have previously read, and students should submit the reading log (also posted in myBaylor) to their English teachers when they return to school in August.

Eighth Grade
All eighth grade students are required to read three books over the summer from the eighth grade directed reading list that is posted in myBaylor and also available by clicking here. Students should not select any texts that they have previously read, and students should submit the reading log (also posted in myBaylor) to their English teachers when they return to school in August.
