Swimmers, Wrestlers Keep Raiders on Rivalry Roll

After the Baylor boys' basketball team took down an undefeated top-ranked McCallie team two weekends ago, Baylor's swimming and wrestling teams kept a Raider roll going against the school's rivals last Thursday and Friday.

The swim teams took decisive victories over GPS (200-105) and McCallie (163.5-136.5) Thursday, with the girls winning eight individual events and the boys winning seven. Both teams swept all three relays. Read more on the Raider Recap. The AquaRaiders will ride the wave of the wins to the state championships February 9.

Baylor's Andrew Pace posted a 5-2 decision at 138 pounds, leading the Raiders' wrestling team to a mild upset Friday, topping previously once-beaten and second-ranked McCallie 40-24 on the McCallie campus. The match began with seven straight bouts won by Baylor as the Raiders jumped out to a 31-0 lead. McCallie stormed back with five wins of their own, cutting the score to 31-24 with only two bouts left. Pace put the match away with his decision followed by a pin by Austin Atchley at 145 for a Baylor exclamation point. Read more on the Raider Recap. The win gives the Raiders momentum heading into this weekend's state duals championships.
