Harris English '07 Added to U.S. Ryder Cup Team

PGA Tour golfer Harris English '07 has been added to the 2021 U.S. Ryder Cup team by U.S. team captain Steve Stricker. English is one of six "captain's picks" (expanded from four due to COVID uncertainty) that Stricker has added to the list of six automatic qualifiers and will be one of six Ryder Cup rookies on the  team. 

The Ryder Cup, match-play competition between a team from the United States and one from Europe, is played every other year, usually. The 2020 Ryder Cup was postponed because of the pandemic. The first Ryder Cup was played in 1927. The modern format has been followed since 1979 and features both fourball and foursome matches as well as singles matches. This year's competition will run September 24-26 at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

The six automatic qualifiers are Patrick Cantlay, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas. The captains' picks are Daniel Berger, English, Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, and Jordan Spieth.

English had two wins on the Tour this season, the Travelers and the Sentry Tournament of Champions, finished third at the U.S. Open, and was tied for 18th in the final FedEx Cup rankings. He has played on one other national team, the 2011 U.S. Walker Cup team, as an amateur.
