Two Baylor Students Win National Writing Award

Baylor senior Charles Liu and junior Benjamin Daniel have been honored with a certificate of Superior Writing in the National Writing Award’s fall 2023 contest: The Humanities and a Freer Tomorrow.

NCTE, in partnership with the National Humanities Alliance, offered this opportunity for student writers based on the National Endowment for the Humanities’ 2023 Jefferson Lecture: “Facing History to Find a Better Future." The prompt asked students to consider the topic, “What is an example of an under- examined object of the humanities that serves as a personal lodestar for how to step into a freer tomorrow? In what ways might this work provide personal guidance and inspiration? How might it be relevant or useful for broader groups of people?

Liu’s prize-winning piece is titled,  "Subterranean Homesick Blues," and Daniel’s is titled, "Faces of the Past- August Sander’s Peoples of the 20th Century."
