Five Juniors Receive Top NCTE Writing Awards

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) has recognized five Baylor juniors with the 2024 Achievement Awards in Writing. Pictured (left to right are) Aidan McRorie, (Superior), Vivien Webster (First Class), Benjamin Daniel (Superior), Johnny Sutter (Superior), and Alisha Chandra (First Class). Daniel was also honored with a certificate of Superior Writing in the NCTE’s National Writing Award’s fall 2023 contest, along with senior Charles Liu.

Faculty member Heather Ott coordinates Baylor’s participation in the annual NCTE program and said the five students serve Baylor in myriad ways and embody Baylor’s mission in the ways they achieve excellence.  “They honor us specifically as talented writers with this accomplishment. Only three Tennessee students earned the First Class award, and Baylor School had two of those three. Studying the humanities is a way to become the best version of yourself—an informed, engaged, and empowered citizen ready to tackle the 21st century's challenges with creativity, compassion, and intelligence.”
