Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Complex on Rike Field

Baylor School trustees and former trustees gathered on Rike Field on Wednesday, Sept. 24, for a ceremonial groundbreaking celebrating a new dormitory complex designed to meet the needs of Baylor’s expanding boarding community while transforming one of the school’s most visible entry points.

The project will include two new dormitories housing 96 students, a centrally located admissions office, a wellness and counseling center, and a flexible event space. Construction began in November and will be completed by June 2027.

Board Chair Alexis Guerry Bogo ’89 reflected on the significance of the milestone, noting that projects of this scale are “bookended” by groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremonies that mark new chapters in Baylor’s evolution. “This building will be transformative for our community,” she said. “It’s the result of thoughtful planning, shared vision, and a commitment to Baylor’s future that will serve generations to come.”

Eleven Baylor Students Earn National Merit Honors

Four Baylor seniors have been named semifinalists in the 71^st annual National Merit Scholarship Program and an additional seven students have earned commended honors.

Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) have announced that four Baylor seniors have been named semifinalists in the 71^st annual National Merit Scholarship Program and an additional seven students have earned commended honors.

Rigdon King-Anderson, Richard Lu, Anna Stoddard, and Michelle Yu were among the 16,000 highest scorers nationwide and now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring.

Their recognition is based on their performance as juniors on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Of the 1.3 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

In addition, seven seniors have been named NMSC Commended Students, all of whom placed among the top 34,000 scorers throughout the U.S. and were recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Baylor’s Commended Students are Gavin Boggs, Wesley Chi, William Hubbard, Pippa Hill, Amelie Johnson, Carter Kaylor, and Elizabeth Silva.

Billy Aiken '68 Receives Distinguished Alumni Award

The Head of School Awards Service honored 13 members of the school community.

Baylor School honored 13 members of the school community during the Head of School Awards Service on Oct. 3, as part of the Alumni Weekend 2025 festivities.

Billy Aiken '68 was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award. The John T. “Buddy” Fisher ’46 Distinguished Service Award was former Baylor School Headmaster Scott Wilson '75.

Dedicated Service honorees were awarded to recent retirees Bill Cox (44 years), Austin Clark (43 years), Heather Ott, (38 years), Betsy Carmichael (35 years), Don Curtis, (35 years), and Tim Williams, (28 years).

The seven new Sports Hall of Fame inductees were former coach Bill Cox, (Athletic Contributor), Scott Ferguson '75 (swimming), Simon Holden '13 (cross country and track and field), Heather Ott (cross country and track coach), Charles Mayfield, III '92 (basketball), Kristin Vredeveld '13, (swimming, induction deferred until fall 2026), and Bob Worthington ’74 (football).

Baylor Faculty and Staff Recognized for Years of Service

Baylor School recognized 43 faculty, staff, and administrators for years of service during assembly on Sept. 29.

Veteran staff member Ricky Miles received a standing ovation in celebration of his 50 years of dedicated service in the Student Center and Miss Kitty’s Grill.

Others marking employment milestones were Charlie Brown and Steve Margio ’91, 30 years; Linda Cooke and Jan Gautier, 25 years; Curtis Blair, Nicole Kosch, Tim Laramore ’99, and Eric Westmoreland, Vic Oakes, and Emmie Treadwell, 20 years; Ted Biedler, Kathy Fraley, Ruth Ann Graham, Scotty Smith ’89, Nancy Seiters, Ashley Shuford, and Carlene West, 15 years; Kelly O’Mara, Hillary Spiller, Libby Thoni, Garrett Walsh, Erin Woodrow, Lauren Callihan, Kelly Eller, and Carrie Rice, 10 years; and Tony Easley, Dr. Antonio Herrera, Dr. Ben Holt, Mary Beth Hopping, Lee Howick, Matt Irvin, Melissa Love Snyder ‘90, Andrew Phipps, Kali Rosenberger, Tyler White, Philly Williams, Nick Boehm ‘98, Simone Harris, Amelia Moore, Rhonda Sixto, Ben Sposet, and Jack Studer ’01, five years.

Convocation Kicks Off Baylor's 133rd Year

Baylor School's 2025-26 academic year began Wednesday, Aug. 13 with the traditional convocation ceremony.

Veteran faculty member Kenneth Parks carried the convocation flag at the school's opening ceremony.

Baylor School's 2025-26 academic year began Wednesday, Aug. 13 with the traditional convocation ceremony taking place in the Field House, officially welcoming 1,114 students, including 240 boarding students from 18 countries and 19 states. The event also marked the beginning of Baylor's 133rd school year.

Following the procession of students selected to represent their class as flagbearers, veteran faculty member Kenneth Parks carried the convocation flag, and Head of School Chris Angel '89 entered with the convocation banner. Students carrying class flags were Carr Stowe '32, Elise Marx '31, Caroline Willoughby '30, Ryder Flaherty '29, Dylan Andrews '28, Smith Kibbe '27, and Kate Haney '26.

The invocation was delivered by Baylor senior Taryn Harris and the pledge of allegiance was led by eighth grader Braden Martell. A special welcome was delivered by members of the school's international community with a greeting in their native language. Honor Council Chair William Hubbard, a senior, delivered remarks explaining the significance of Baylor's Honor Code, which was followed by a keynote from Community Service Director Takisha Haynie. Senior James McCorkle gave the benediction before the ceremony closed with the Baylor Concert Choir singing the Alma Mater under the direction of Vic Oakes.
