Graduate with the Distinction of a Global Scholar
Global Scholars is Baylor’s distinction for students who apply an international lens to their education by studying world languages, choosing globally focused courses, taking advantage of a diverse menu of travel opportunities, creating a digital portfolio, and completing a global capstone project.
Baylor’s Global Scholars Program
To be recognized as a Global Scholar, students must complete five requirements:
- Three years of language study in the upper school.
- Completion of one course that we have deemed “international” in scope and topic.
- Completion of a purposeful international travel experience
- Creation of a digital portfolio.
- Completion of a Global Scholars project
Most capstone projects fit into one of two archetypes:
- Engaging with a global community (ex. Teaching art classes through the local La Paz chapter, raising money to build and improve soccer facilities in the Dominican Republic, interviewing immigrants about their experience for a podcast, etc.)
- Bringing the world to campus (ex. Organizing an on-campus celebration of Chinese New Year, presenting on sustainable practices in traditional Indian culture at the Symposium, inviting a speaker to discuss international issues)
Courses with an International Focus
From the sixth grade through graduation, Baylor demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to global scholarship by offering five world languages: Chinese, French, German, Latin, and Spanish – and a post AP Chinese course. Language fluency forms the foundation for our Global Scholars Program that includes other internationally-focused courses such as AP human geography and culminates with the completion of a digital portfolio. Baylor’s Global Scholars also have purposeful travel experiences through one of the many school-sponsored trips abroad, as well as exchange opportunities with our ten partnering international schools.
Baylor is committed to global education as a step toward fulfilling our own mission of "fostering in students the desire to make a positive difference in the world."
"Baylor’s Global Scholars constantly search for ways to engage in a meaningful way with the world beyond Baylor’s gates. They seek out travel and exchange opportunities, take courses that prepare them to enter and understand the world, and design projects that challenge their skills as global learners."
