Biology Research at Baylor

Immerse Yourself in the Real World Of Research In this college prep course

Are you interested in performing biomedical research in a laboratory? How about exploring your environment and learning the techniques that scientists use to ask and answer deep questions about life? This program gives students the opportunity to perform basic scientific research in an integrative developmental genetics and computational biology laboratory. This course is meant to provide students with a rich laboratory experience of college-level scientific research that will prepare them well for in their future scientific endeavors. Students will learn how to use genetic model organisms in research, gene knockdown by RNA interference, the use of recombinant DNA technology and molecular cloning, PCR, and next-generation sequencing. This summer will feature experiments using a Scanning Electron Microscope and a genome-sequencing project of animal species native to the Baylor School Campus, including a species of bioluminescent millipedes! Chemistry is recommended to attend, experience in a biology laboratory preferred but not required.

July 18 - 22 | Grades 10 -12 | $500 | Chemistry or Biology prerequisite
