You will learn from professional artists.

Many of our faculty continue to showcase their works in local and regional exhibits, perform and direct in community theater, and contribute to the cultural landscape of Chattanooga’s vibrant arts community. Theater instructor Allison Lamb is a veteran member of Actors’ Equity, and Beth Gumnick frequently directs productions at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. Fine Arts Department Chair Vincent Oakes has served as the Artistic Director of the Chattanooga Boys Choir since 2003. Artists from all disciplines are frequently invited to meet with classes and to work as visiting guest lecturers, composers, performers, and choreographers.

You will have access to a spacious Fine Arts complex.

Our Fine Arts complex features a black box theatre, spacious dance studios, scene and costume shops that rival those of some colleges, and breakout rehearsal rooms. Nearby are studio spaces for digital design, drawing, printmaking, pottery, sculpture, photography, computer graphics, and painting. And our music building is home to our band, orchestra, and choir ensembles complete with chamber and individual practice rooms.

You will expand your perspective through travel and service to the community.

Our drama students have traveled to New York City where they have enjoyed Broadway shows and participating in workshops led by top artists. The Liz Aplin art trip has led students to The Florence Academy in Italy and other international destinations. Our choir, band, and orchestra participate in regional tours and national competitions each year. Our students also deliver the importance of the arts to the greater Chattanooga community. The winter players acting troupe performs at area youth centers for children who have limited exposure to theater experiences. Members of the studio art classes recently created cards for nurses and doctors working in local hospitals. Middle school theater students created and performed original works based on interviews they conducted with residents of a local retirement community.

You will acquire skills necessary for a lifetime of enjoyment and fulfillment in the arts, including further study in college.

While at Baylor, students have participated in summer arts intensives at schools including Savanah College of Art and Design, Berklee College of Music, and the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute. Recent graduates have continued to follow their passion for the arts in colleges and universities, prepared with the skills to participate fully in arts experiences from the moment they first step foot on campus.

Students have continued their pursuit of the fine arts at DePaul, USC Film School, NYU, Sewanee, George Washington University, Belmont University, and others.
