“It is fun as a faculty member to work with students who are well rounded, but it’s also wonderful as a parent to know that Baylor offers my children such great opportunities.”
Biography

Both of Allyson Arrington’s parents were teachers, and Allyson “planned to do anything but teach.” But she discovered that “teaching was what I needed to be doing” as a teaching assistant at Wake Forest, where she earned her master’s degree in mathematics. She earned her undergraduate degree Phi Beta Kappa, also in mathematics, at Wofford College.

A native of Anniston, Ala., Allyson has taught all levels of math from sixth grade through college calculus. She most enjoys working with high school juniors and seniors, who she says are “old enough to handle responsibility and you can expect a good deal from them. At the same time, they’re young enough that you can potentially make a difference in their lives.”

Allyson and her husband, Chief Information Officer Shawn Arrington, moved to Chattanooga from Jackson, Miss., where both worked at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. Allyson spent her first year in Chattanooga tutoring, substitute teaching at Baylor, and helping her children get settled. The couple has a daughter, Rileigh ’17, and a son, Creighton '21.

Allyson enjoys home improvement projects, visiting bookstores with her family, and working on projects with her children. Because of the beauty of this area, the family continues to explore outdoor activities together.

Allyson teaches three sections of Upper School math. “It is fun as a faculty member to work with students who are well rounded, but it’s also wonderful as a parent to know that Baylor offers my children such great opportunities.”
