Curtis Blair
Head coach of Baylor's girls' and boys' varsity soccer teams, Curtis Blair grew up near Chattanooga and was the first All-State soccer player ever at Soddy Daisy High School. He went on to be four-year starter and captain at Tennessee Wesleyan College, where he earned a B.S. in exercise and sports medicine with an emphasis in physical education and health. He has an M.S. in human movement from A. T. Still University. He holds "A"and "Youth" licenses with the USSF and Premier and Youth diplomas with United Coaches.
Blair was an assistant coach for state champion Baylor teams in 2006, 2010, and 2011 and was head coach for Raider teams that took state titles in 2012, 2017, and 2018. Winning both girls' and boys' titles in the 2017-18 school year, Blair was the recipient of the Scrappy Moore Coach of the Year Award, named the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
"The relationship with the players is by far the best thing about coaching at Baylor," says Blair. "Getting to know each player individually is very important to me. And there are so many quality coaches here that really care about our student-athletes. I also love the fact that we have such a great athletic department with our coaching staff, athletic training staff, strength and conditioning staff, and wonderful Baylor teachers. And our facilities are some of the best soccer facilities in the south, equal to most college facilities."
"My coaching philosophy is based on three areas: Character, Process, Results," continues Blair. "Every season, we come together and come up with a word that will define our team. We use this word throughout the season. Process is having our players understand it is the journey and not the destination that matters. If we control what we can control, that is our attitude and effort, then everything else will take care of itself. Results are important but teaching our players how to compete is more important. I feel like if we concentrate on our Character and the Process then the Results will come."
