Wrestling Team Takes First Losses at Blair Duals, JV Second at Soddy Daisy Showdown

The Baylor wrestling team was taken down for the first time this season, losing three of four matches, at the Blair Duals at Blair Academy in New Jersey this weekend.

The round robin tourney featured, along with Baylor (ranked 40th by InterMat wrestling among high schools in the country), host Blair (2nd), Delbarton (N.J., 11th), St. Joseph (Montana, 34th), and unranked Belmont Hill (Mass.)

Delbarton 37, Baylor 22. The Raiders got wins from Micah Tisdale (major decision) at 126 pounds, Garrison Dendy (fall) at 138, Omaury Alvarez (fall (160), Connor Duffy (5-0) at 182, and Sam Christensen (forfeit) at 285.

St. Joseph's 31, Baylor 27. Baylor wins against St. Joseph came from Nick Corday (fall) at 106, Micah Tisdale (5-1) at 126, Omaury Alvarez (8-6) at 160, Gunnar Garriques (7-3) at 170, Connor Duffy (2-0) at 182, David Harper (fall) at 195, and Barrett Chambers (2-1) at 220 pounds.

Blair Academy 58, Baylor 4. Blair Academy showed that their number two ranking is legit. Noah Horst (major decision), at 132 pounds, earned Baylor's only four points.

Baylor 63, Belmont Hill 12. Wins for the Raiders came from Nick Corday (fall) at 106 pounds, Jackson Bond (fall) at 113, Noah Horst (fall) at 132, Garrison Dendy (fall) at 138, Anthony Mannella (fall) at 152, Omaury Alvarez (fall) at 160, Gunnar Garriques (fall) at 170, Connor Duffy (3-2) at 182, David Harper (fall) at 195, Barrett Chambers (fall) at 220, and Sam Christensen (forfeit) at 285.

Baylor, 10-3, wrestles at Notre Dame Thursday.

Closer to home, Baylor's JV squad took second in the Soddy Daisy Showdown Saturday. Peyton Smith (106), Bryce Waldrep (152), Jason Motley (170), and Heath Snodgrass (220) placed second; Elijah Turner (120), Eli Andrews (132), Michael Kinsey (160), and Thomas Latimer (195) were third-place winners; and Jacob Weekley (126) and Luke Collins (145) placed fourth.
