McCallie 3, Baylor 2. A Tornado rally and an ill-timed thunderstorm combined to deal the Baylor baseball team a 3-2 defeat in the opening round of the state tournament Tuesday night.
The Tornado parlayed three hits and a walk for a three-run sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Baylor mounted a threat in the top of the seventh, and had the tying and go-ahead runs on base with Tomas Valincius batting with two out when lightning and rain stopped the game. Unable to resume, the game was called official after six innings.
Jonathan Larrea drove in both Baylor runs, singling in Carson Yates in the second inning after a Yates double, and plating Hunter Herndon, who had reached on a fielder's choice, with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Baylor, now 22-8 on the year, will take on Lipscomb Academy, a 3-0 loser to Knox Catholic, Wednesday morning.
