Baylor 4, GPS 3. Baylor will play for a fifth consecutive softball state championship Thursday, after Sophie Piskos' walk-off, two-out double in the bottom of the seventh gave the Raiders a 4-3 win over GPS in the semifinal round Wednesday.
Piskos' heroic gapper scored Abby McNamara, 2-for-3 on the day, who singled to lead off the seventh. She advanced to second on Emily Rye's sacrifice bunt and tagged up and went to third on Makayla Packer's fly ball out to right field.
Baylor scored a run in the first on Acelynn Sellers' RBI triple, added another with a Macy Ann McKnight solo homer in the second, and led 3-0 after a Brinley Garrison sac fly in the third. GPS rallied for three runs, two earned, in the fourth. Sydney Berzon earned the win, allowing six hits in the complete game and striking out eight.
Baylor, 41-3, will play the winner of the losers' bracket final (GPS vs. St. Benedict) for the championship at 5:00 ET Thursday. Should the Raiders lose, a double elimination "if necessary" title game will be played Friday.
