Baylor senior Agda Laakso and freshman Helen Guerry will play for a state doubles championship at the state tennis tournament on Friday after winning quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Thursday.
With weather forcing the tournament indoors and a decision to play pro sets, the Baylor duo beat Melanie and Stephanie Woodbury of Hutchison in a tie-breaker 9-8 (5) in the quarterfinal round, and sailed through the semis with an 8-1 win over Anna Brock and Hadley McCormack of Ensworth. The championship match is scheduled for noon ET on Friday with Laakso/Guerry taking on Lillie Murphy and Eleni Liakonis of state team champion Knox Catholic.
Seven girls' doubles teams have won state championships, the last coming in 2018 with Lily Mooney '18 and Lauren Carelli '18 taking the title.
