Cansler Wins Annual Handicap Race at Girls' XC Camp

The Baylor girls' cross country team ended its annual pre-season camp with the traditional handicap race - a staggered start, based on time trials, with a sprint to the finish line - last week. Junior Catherine Cansler was the winner this year, raising the "Spirit Stick" after chasing down eight teammates and holding off the remaining seven.

According to head coach Heather Ott, the week of camp is as crucial to building team unity as it is to preparing the runners for the season. "After those four days of camp," said Ott, "we are on our way to constructing the fabric of what will sustain, inspire, and strengthen our team in the weeks and months ahead."
