Boys Rebound for 20th Win, Girls Fall to Knights on Senior Night

Baylor Boys 80, JPII 59. The Baylor boys' basketball team rebounded from a cold shooting night and a loss to rival McCallie to beat Pope John Paul II 80-59 in region action, and senior night, at home Saturday night. 

Baylor had four players scoring in double figures with Beyuan Hendricks hitting two 3-pointers and finishing with 19 points, Nick Kurtz adding 18, Wiley Pippenger scoring 13 points with a 3-pointer, and Blake Pruitt hitting two 3s on his way to 10 points. Lorenzo White had a 3-pointer and finished with eight points, Noah Martin had four points, Grant Johnson and Jackson Solis each hit one 3-pointer, and Mekos Baker scored two points. JPII was led by Elijah Hollins with 15 points.

Baylor, 20-4 overall and 10-3 in the league, wraps up the regular season with a region game at Lipscomb Academy Friday.

JPII 49, Baylor Girls 38. The Baylor girls' basketball team had its senior night celebration dampened by a 49-38 loss to Pope John Paul II.

Brooklyn Gordon led the Raiders with nine points including a 3-pointer, Bella White added seven points, Britt Barton hit two 3s for six points, Cadashia Collins had a 3-pointer on her way to six points, Macy Ann McKnight had four points, and Hayden Barton and Kortney Restelli had one 3-pointer apiece. The Knights were led by Keonna Chumbley with 12 points.

Baylor, 11-16 overall and 5-9 in region play, hosts St. Cecilia Tuesday.

Baylor JV Boys 54, JPII 51. The Baylor JV boys outscored the Knights 31-8 in the second half and wrapped up their season with a 54-51 win over Pope John Paul II Saturday. Cooper Kinney led the Raiders with 14 points, Pete Collins added eight, Robert Morton had seven points (one 3-pointer), Patrick Johns had two 3-pointers for six points, Watson Brown scored six points, Saad Mohammad added five points (one 3-pointer), Carson Yates had four points, Hunter Herndon had a 3-pointer, and Eli Sparkman scored one point. Baylor JV ends the season with a 10-5 record.

The Baylor swimming and diving team won its 28th combined Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) state championship Saturday, the 14th straight title, while the Baylor girls returned to the state throne for the 15th time, the first time since 2013. The Baylor boys were third.
