Baylor has a nominee in each category of the Best of Preps Scrappy Moore awards, presented annually by the Chattanooga Times Free Press and recognizing the top female and male athletes as well as the top coach in the Chattanooga area. The Scrappy Moore Awards banquet will once again be a virtual event due to COVID-19 precautions. It will be shown at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 24 at timesfreepress.com.
Recent Baylor graduate Reagyn Conley (pictured, left) is one of six finalists for the Scrappy Moore Female Athlete of the Year. Conley averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Baylor basketball team this season, leading the Raiders to a 10-11 record and a berth in the state playoffs. Conley, 6’ 2”, was named to the D-II All-State team and has signed to play at Wake Forest University.
Cooper Kinney (pictured, right), also a member of the Baylor Class of 2021, is a finalist for the Scrappy Moore Male Athlete of the Year. Kinney, already signed with the University of South Carolina is anxiously awaiting next month’s Major League Baseball draft in which he is considered a possible first-round pick. Kinney was the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association’s Mr. Baseball in 2021, batting .480 with 10 homers, 19 doubles, and 50 RBI for the Raiders, who won their third straight state championship.
Baylor golf coach Gary Partrick (pictured, center) is a finalist for the Scrappy Moore Coach of the Year. In his ninth season as head coach, Partrick led both girls’ and boys’ teams to state championships last fall. The Baylor girls finished first or second in every tournament they played in while the boys added City Prep and region titles.
