Baylor 4, Lipscomb Academy 1. The Baylor soccer team had plenty to celebrate before and after a 4-1 region win over Lipscomb Academy Tuesday.
In a brief pregame ceremony, the Raiders honored seniors Andrew Hill, Tommy Knight, John Musick, Carter Smith, and Christian Stophel for their contributions to the program and, after the game, the celebration was for securing the number two seed in the region and a first-round bye in the state playoffs.
After an early Lipscomb goal, Baylor got unanswered goals at the 36-, 46-, 48-, and 60-minute mark. John Musick scored off a David Danquah pass, Mac Jett finished an Ethan Nunes corner kick, Nathan Webb scored on a 20-yard shot, and Nunes finished it off with a 25-yard blast. Charlie Hooks needed only one save in the Raider goal for the win.
"We needed to get this win to give us a bye and a number two seed from the East/Middle region," said Baylor coach Curtis Blair. "We also wanted to send our seniors out on a victory."
Baylor, 10-5-2 overall and 5-2 in region play, will host Montgomery Bell Academy in a state quarterfinal match on May 18.
