Baylor Hoops Teams Return to Final Four

Baylor Girls 54, JPII 41. The Baylor girls' basketball team earned a berth in the TSSAA state Final Four with a 54-41 win over Pope John Paul II in a quarterfinal match-up in Duke Arena Friday night.

The Raiders used a balance scoring attack with Miss Basketball finalist Raegyn Conley leading with 16 points and Cadashia Collins and Bella White adding 14 apiece. Emma Martin had seven and Macy Ann McKnight scored three points. Baylor scorers had 10 3-pointers with Collins hitting four, Conley three, and White, Martin, and McKnight making one each. Ashley Malone of Pope John Paul II led all scorers with 33 of the Knights' 41 points.

This is the eighth Final Four appearance for the Raiders since 1999. Baylor teams played semifinal games in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2009, 2015, 2016, and 2018, and were state runner-up in 2001 and 2016.

Baylor, 24-5, will play undefeated Ensworth, 26-0, in the semifinals at 1:00 ET Friday in Lipscomb University's Allen Arena. The other two teams are Brentwood Academy (21-8) and Briarcrest (25-5), who the Raiders beat earlier this season.

Baylor Boys 46, Brentwood Academy 39. The Baylor boys' basketball team will be making its third straight appearance in the TSSAA state Final Four, thanks to an impressive 46-39 state quarterfinal win on the road at Brentwood Academy Saturday.

Nick Kurtz was back in the Baylor lineup and led the Raiders with 14 points followed closely by Eli Sparkman, who hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, and Ivan Reap, who made three 3s on the way to 10 points. Gehrig Ebel and Al Peciulis added five points each. Brentwood Academy was led by Clay Holmes with 11 points.

This is the eighth Final Four berth for the Baylor boys with other semifinal appearances coming in 1987 (before D-II classification began), 1998, 2002, 2007, 2012, 2018, and 2019. The Raiders were state runner-up in 2002 and 2018.

Baylor, 16-9, will take on Briarcrest (24-5) in Friday's semifinal game at 2:30 ET in Lipscomb Arena's Allen Arena. Christian Brothers (19-10) and Knox Catholic (23-4), who the Raiders split games with this season, are the other two teams.
