Baylor Beats GPS, Wins Region Title, Honors Seniors

Baylor 7, GPS 1. The Baylor softball team beat rival GPS 7-1 Wednesday, avenging an earlier loss to the Bruisers. The six-run margin of victory was also important as it gave the Raiders the region championship by virtue of a tie-breaker. Baylor is the number one region seed and will receive a bye in the first round of the state playoffs. Baylor also honored seniors Brinley Garrison, Abby McNamara, and Emily Rye in a post-game Senior Day ceremony.

Syd Berzon pitched another gem for the Raiders, scattering five hits and striking out 14 in seven innings. She also had one of Baylor's 11 hits. Acelynn Sellers was an offensive star, drawing a walk to lead off the four-run fourth inning and blasting a two-run homer in the fifth. Sophie Piskos had two hits and an RBI and Raven Jones, Macy Ann McKnight, Cadashia Collins, and Emily Rye had RBI singles.

Baylor wraps up the regular season at 37-3 overall and 13-1 in region play. They will host a second round state playoff game next week.
