Baylor Beats Bruisers, Clinches Region Crown

Baylor 4, GPS 1. Zoey Mize had two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Baylor girls' soccer team to a 4-1 win over rival GPS that clinched the region championship for the Red Raiders. Jada Cooper and Melissa Oliveira scored the other goals for Baylor. The Raiders led 2-1 at halftime.

The match was played at Baylor in front of a large, raucous crowd in the middle of "Spirit Week," when the Baylor rivalries with GPS and McCallie are highlighted on all three campuses.

"What an amazing environment for both teams to play in front of this year," said Baylor coach Curtis Blair. "I have to give a lot of credit to the Baylor student section that brought a ton of energy and noise. They are the best fans in the nation and kept us wanting to play hard for them. This was a great team effort and I am so proud of our players."

Baylor, 13-1-2 overall and 3-0 in region play, travels to Bearden Oct. 7.
