Basketball Teams Downed in State Semifinals

Ensworth 66, Baylor Girls 29. The Baylor girls' basketball team ended it successful 2020 campaign with a 66-29 state semifinal loss to eventual state champion and undefeated Ensworth Friday. Ensworth was ranked 10th in the nation coming into the game and beat Brentwood Academy by 20 in the title game.

Bella White led the Raiders' scoring with three 3-pointers and finishing with 12 points. Cadashia Collins hit two 3s and added seven points, Riley Oleksik and Kailee Johnson had one 3-pointer each, Kortney Restelli had two points, and Miss Basketball finalist Reagyn Conley, who left the game with an injury and played less than half the game, was held to two points. Ensworth's Dontavia Waggoner led all scorers with 20 points.

Baylor ends the season with a 24-6 record, undefeated in region play, and enjoyed a 14-game win streak from Jan. 4 until Friday's loss.

Briarcrest 61, Baylor Boys 41. The Baylor boys' basketball team fell short of the state championship game, falling 61-41 to Briarcrest in the semifinal game Friday. Briarcrest lost by three to Knox Catholic, who the Raiders beat earlier this season, in the title game.

Grant Johnson led Baylor scorers with four 3-pointers for 12 points, Al Peciulis added 11 points with one 3-pointer, Nick Kurtz had 10 points, Eli Sparkman and Gehrig Ebel had one 3-pointer apiece, and Ivan Reap scored two points. Briarcrest's Marcellus Brigham led all scorers with 26 points.

Baylor ends the 2020 season with a 16-10 record.
