Smith Qualifies for Fifth Olympic Trials Event, Waldrep Makes Second Cut

Recent Baylor graduate Addison Smith '19 has qualified for the 2020 Olympic Team Trials in a Baylor-record fifth event, posting a time of 4:51.21 in a preliminary heat of the 400 meter individual medley at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Stanford, Calif. Aug. 2. Smith had already made qualifying cuts in the 200 and 400 freestyle events, the 200 meter butterfly, and the 200 meter IM. No Baylor swimmer has ever qualified for the Olympic Trials in five events.

Also at the Phillips 66 Championships, rising Baylor junior Ellie Waldrep '21 qualified for a second Olympic Trials event, the 200 meter backstroke. Waldrep had qualified for the 100 meter backstroke at the Atlanta Classic in May.
