The first U.S. Open for women was played in 1937. The United States Women’s Polo Association was the first and only women’s polo association in America until 1972 when women were welcomed into the United States Polo Association. The U.S. Open Women’s Polo Championship, discontinued during WWII, was not replayed until the early 1990s. In 2011, the tournament was recognized as a national tournament and is now the country’s most prestigious women’s polo cup.
