English Wins Travelers in Eight-Hole Playoff

Harris English '07 sank a five-foot birdie putt on the eighth hole of a sudden death playoff to beat a determined Kramer Hickok and win the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. Sunday, June 27. The eight-hole playoff matches the second longest sudden death playoff in PGA history and is a record for the Travelers Championship.

Harris English '07 reacts as he takes the lead with a birdie putt on the 72nd hole of the Travelers Championship.

English had made a 28-footer for birdie on 18 about three hours earlier for a final round 65 to finish -13 in regulation. Hickok made a similarly brilliant putt on the same hole to tie English, sending the duo to sudden death. After a string of seven straight pars by each player, English finally broke through with the solidly stroked winner.

The win was the second of the 2021 season for English, who also won the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January, and comes a week after a strong third-place finish at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. The championship also comes with a $1,386,000 payday and 500 FedEx points, vaulting English into second place in the FedEx Cup standings after 21 events.
