Baylor Teams Among Academic Award Winners

Baylor's boys' and girls' soccer teams have both earned Team Academic Awards for 2017-18 as announced by United Soccer Coaches. Those teams also won state championships during the 2017-18 seasons.

A total of 311 high school teams (106 boys' teams and 205 girls') from throughout the United States have earned the award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2017-18 academic year. Baylor is among only 30 schools in the nation and one of only three in Tennessee receiving honors for both their boys' and girls' teams. Baylor is the only independent school in the state on the list of double honorees.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

"This is the true definition of student-athlete," said Baylor's Curtis Blair, who coached both state championship teams. "This award is a tribute to the wonderful Baylor faculty that teach these students every day and is a true Baylor School award. With only 30 high schools in the nation winning this award for both programs, it is pretty special."
