Baylor senior Aliya Cooper will continue her soccer career in college, signing a letter-of-intent Tuesday to play for East Tennessee State University.
Cooper was an All-Region and All-State performer in 2020 and has been named to the 2021 All-Region team. The All-State team will be named later. She helped lead the Red Raiders to a 16-2-2 record and a state runner-up finish this fall.
"We are so proud of this young lady and what she has meant to our school, soccer program, and to her teammates," said Baylor coach Curtis Blair as Cooper was joined by her teammates at a signing ceremony Tuesday. "She defines what we want out of our players: coachable, determined to get better every day, and unselfish. She has always put the Baylor soccer team before herself and it will be hard to fill her shoes next year."
"Aliya was one of the first 2022’s we identified in the recruiting process, and we are certainly glad she has chosen to join us in Johnson City." said Bucs head coach Jay Yelton. "Aliya is a player who can play in a lot of different roles, and we certainly love her versatility. She is a very diligent player and always looks to bring her best in every opportunity she has to play. She can play as an outside back or as a wide attacking player, but we know that ultimately she is going to compete and be another player who loves to have the opportunity to represent ETSU as best she can.”
ETSU plays in the Southern Conference.
