Baylor grad and Centre College cross country runner Alison Anderson '17 has been named the Southern Athletic Association Women's Runner of the Week, sprinting for the win at the Mike & Mary Kay Johnson Invitational at Berea College on Sept 14.
Anderson's first collegiate victory marked the best race of her college career as she beat the second-place finisher by just two seconds in the field of 94 women. Finishing the 5K course in 19:17, Anderson helped the Colonels to boast seven of the top 11 individual runners in a dominant first-place team finish.
Anderson, a Centre junior, gave some of the credit for her success to the training she received at Baylor under coach Heather Ott. "Baylor cross country contributes even now to how I train," she said. "Training in the woods on the Baylor campus helped me develop my love for racing in the woods."
