Inducted 2022
Oliver Townsend '05 was a member of the Baylor boys’ track team that won the state championship in 2002 and one of the most decorated and successful male runners in the school’s history. He set school records in the 800 and 1600 meter runs, with the 1600 meter record still standing in 2022. Townsend was a six-time Chattanooga Times Free Press Best of Preps pick and was the recipient of the John Phillips Award for Outstanding Achievement in Track and Field. Townsend finished second in the mile at the Penn Relays and was a five-time state runner-up while racking up regional championships. Off the course and track, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Cum Laude, and Round Table, a National Merit Commended Scholar, and winner of the Stagmaier Award.
Townsend went on to win four varsity letters in cross country and track and field at Dartmouth College and was elected captain of the Big Green squad while earning Academic All-Ivy honors in 2007. After graduating from Dartmouth, Townsend was named the youngest partner at Citadel Investment Group, served on the Friends of Dartmouth Track and Field Board, and is active with the Make-a-Wish and Achilles Foundations.
