Harris English ’07 is inducted into the Baylor Sports Hall of Fame at the beginning of what appears to be a very promising PGA career.

A leader on the course and campus while at Baylor, English played on three state championship golf teams for the Raiders, was the individual state champion in 2005, and runner-up in 2006. He also served on the Honor Council and Red Circle, won the Jumonville Award, and was a peer tutor during his years at Baylor.

English made immediate contributions at the University of Georgia and was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Year. He continued to lead as an All-SEC and All-American player on two SEC championship teams while making annual appearances on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. During his senior year, English was chosen for the SEC’s Community Service Team, was selected as a Scholar-Athlete by the UGA Athletic Association, and was a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award.

Away from school, English’s amateur career featured wins at the 2007 Georgia State Amateur and the 2011 Southern Amateur. He also qualified for the 2010 U.S. Amateur, where he reached the round of 16, and played for the U.S team in the 2011 Walker Cup.

After graduating from UGA, English had one win on the Nationwide Tour before earning his spot on the PGA Tour. As a PGA Tour rookie in 2012, he made 22 cuts in 27 tournaments with three top ten finishes, earning over $1.18 million. English had two tour victories in 2013, winning the FedEx St. Jude Classic by two strokes (over Phil Mickelson) and the OHL Classic, which he won by a four-stroke margin. He has played in all four majors – The Masters, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship – making 10 cuts in 13 total events.

English married Helen Marie Bowers in February of 2017.
