Charley Hannah, a native of Albertville, Alabama, graduated from Baylor in 1973. He was a member of the Letterman's Club and garnered All-City and All-State awards in football and All-City honors in track. He played in the 1973 Tennessee All-Star Football Game and led Baylor's team to the state championship game in his senior year. Charley was also an outstanding wrestler at Baylor. Charley was often listed on the Honor Roll and Dean's List at Baylor, and he was a member of the Spirit Club.

At the University of Alabama, Charley played football for the Crimson Tide and was on the 1973 SEC and National Championship team, as well as the 1974 and 1975 SEC Championship teams. He was an All-SEC selection in 1976. He began his twelve-year NFL career as the Tampa Bay Buccaneer's first pick of the third round in the NFL draft. During his six-year career with the Buccaneers, Charley played two years at defensive end and four years at offensive tackle. He was a member of the 1979 Buccaneers Division Championship team that played in the National Conference Championship game, and he also played for the 1981 NFC Central Division Championship team. Charley played six years at offensive guard for the Oakland Raiders beginning in 1983 and was a starting guard for the team that won the 1983 Super Bowl.

Since 1988, he has been a principal with Hannah-Bartoletta Homes of Tampa, Florida. Charley has a daughter named Kimberly.
