Inducted 2022

The point guard on a basketball team is looked to for leadership and Allen Carter '91, inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2022, is a born leader. He, in fact, captained the Red Raiders during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Carter’s leadership at Baylor was also important off the court as he served as president of the Student Council, vice-chair of the Honor Council, was a dorm prefect, and served on the Dorm Council. For his contributions, he was the recipient of the Alexander Guerry Award and the Jumonville Award. Carter’s leadership at Baylor continued in his adulthood serving as a board member on the school’s Board of Trustees.

Baylor’s Most Valuable Player in 1990, Carter led the Raiders to a 26-5 record that included a 17-game win streak, and the District 6AAA league championship as Baylor went undefeated in league play, the first team to do so since the great Riverside High team in the 1970s. His 13 points-per-game average in 1990 was highlighted by a memorable performance against three-time Georgia state champ Marist, where he set a school record for 3-pointers in a game with nine on the way to 31 points in a 59-51 Baylor win. That team eventually advanced to an appearance in the sub-state round for only the second time in Baylor history.

His scoring average improved to 15 points-per-game during his senior year, when he was named MVP of the All-City team. Carter’s senior year ended with a 20-10 record and a regional semifinal loss, due mostly to a special Lincoln County defense designed to shut down Carter’s scoring prowess.

Carter was named the winner of Baylor's ICE MAN award each of his three seasons, given to the player who plays the best under pressure. After graduating from Baylor, Carter was invited as a preferred walk-on at the University of Tennessee team.
