Honoring Coach Bill McMahan '67

Please make plans to be in attendance for the special ceremony honoring retired teacher and coach Bill McMahan '67 at halftime of the Baylor football game against Pope John Paul II on Friday, Sept. 17. As part of the halftime festivities, the newly renovated Baylor track will be dedicated as McMahan-Rike Track.

McMahan was Baylor's head varsity track coach for 28 years in which he led girls’ teams to seven state championships and 20 region titles. Also during his tenure, Baylor’s boys’ teams won two state championships and were runners-up twice. His name will appear forever alongside the name of coach James Rike, one of Baylor's oldest legendary figures, who led Baylor track teams to ten consecutive TIAA or Mid-South championships in the 1930s. Both coaches are in the Baylor Sports Hall of Fame.
