Ellie Waldrep ’21 Competes in U.S. Olympic Trials
Ellie Waldrep '21 appears on the jumbo-tron at the Olympic Trials in Omaha.

Recent Baylor graduate Ellie Waldrep ’21 qualified for and competed in the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June, with hopes of swimming for the U.S. at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Entering the trials ranked 40th in the world in the 100 meter backstroke, Waldrep posted a time of 1:01.06, good enough for 17th in the field of 61, just two places out of qualifying for the semifinals. She also was a trials qualifier in the 200 meter backstroke and finished 33rd in the preliminary heat. Waldrep will swim for Auburn University.

Two other Baylor alumni also competed in the 2021 team trials. Trey Freeman ’18, represented the University of Florida, made it back to the finals in both the 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle events.  He finished sixth in both. Addison Smith '19, a rising junior at the University of North Carolina, finished seventh overall in the 200-meter freestyle.
