Could you be the next Cartter Scholar?

A boarding scholarship focused on a combination of academic excellence as well as a breadth of interest and capacity for leadership in and out of the classroom.

Cartter Scholarship Overview

Baylor names Cartter Scholars annually, providing scholarships to 9th and 10th grade domestic boarding students new to Baylor. The awards range from partial to full tuition and remain in force throughout their time at Baylor.

Cartter Award Criteria

Cartter Scholar applicants should demonstrate academic excellence as well as a breadth of interest outside the classroom, including arts, athletics, and/or community service. Baylor also pays attention to the applicant’s capacity for leadership in and out of the classroom.

Cartter Scholar applicants are limited to rising 9th and 10th grade domestic boarding students who are new to Baylor.

Scholarship & Tuition Assistance Opportunities for other applicants

While the Cartter Scholarship is not available for 11th or 12th grade Boarding applicants, Day applicants, or International applicants, we encourage all prospective families to submit an inquiry form and explore our Tuition Assistance & Scholarships page for information about making Baylor more affordable.

Cartter Scholarship Process & Requirements

Prospective scholarship candidates must first apply to Baylor by creating an Admission & Enrollment (A & E) Portal Account. From there, rising 9th and 10th grade domestic Boarding applicants can complete their Cartter Scholarship Form on the Admission Checklist.

Once the form is complete, Cartter applicants will be prompted to complete a Cartter Scholarship Essay and request an additional recommendation on their Admission Checklist. In order to be considered for the Cartter Scholarship, candidates must complete the following within their A & E Portal by December 15:

Additionally, in the state of Tennessee, Baylor is required to submit information to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) for any student receiving tuition assistance. As a result, all scholarship candidates must also apply for tuition assistance through the Clarity Financial Aid platform by December 15.

Please note: any financial award exceeding a family’s qualifying amount will render a student ineligible to compete in TSSAA Varsity athletic competitions. For a student to become eligible, the TSSAA states that families can only receive up to their qualifying amount determined by Clarity. Student-athletes are eligible to compete in Junior Varsity athletic competitions, as well as practice, scrimmage, and travel with Varsity teams.

Our Cartter Scholars

Baylor’s Cartter Scholars have been actors, athletes, dancers, debaters, outdoors enthusiasts, writers, mathematicians, student government officers, singers, and scientists. They have gone on to college at Brown, Georgia Tech, Harvard, MIT, UNC, Stanford, Vanderbilt, UVA, and Washington & Lee, among many others. They hail from California to Maine and Washington to Florida, and all throughout the Southeastern Unities States. Our scholars reflect diverse personal backgrounds and world views. What they have had in common are academic aptitude, the desire to achieve excellence, and a passion for self-discovery. They have left their marks on Baylor, and Baylor has become a part of them.

Cartter Scholarship recipients are automatically members of Baylor’s Harris-Stanford Honors Program.

The Cartter Scholars Program is
