Recognizing the Best and Brightest

Baylor Scholarships are designed to provide recognition for prospective Upper School students who demonstrate promise for academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and leadership.

Baylor Scholarship Program Overview

Baylor Scholarships are both meritorious and need-based, ranging from partial to full tuition. Provided the recipient continues to demonstrate the academic and extracurricular excellence that merited the award, they will receive the award throughout their career at Baylor.

Candidates will be expected to have performed at a high-level both in and out of the classroom and exhibited the potential for leadership. Baylor Scholarship recipients should demonstrate a personal commitment to making a positive difference in the world.

Scholarship Criteria

Any Upper School applicant (grades 9-12) is eligible to apply for a Baylor Scholarship.

Candidates should demonstrate academic excellence as well as a breadth of interest outside the classroom, including arts, athletics, and/or community service.

Named Scholarship Funds

Thanks to the generosity of donors who value a Baylor School education, more than 50 named scholarship funds generate over $6 million each year for Baylor’s robust Tuition Assistance program serving merit- and need-based awards for families and students. Each named scholarship becomes available upon graduation of its previous recipient.

Baylor Scholarship Process & Requirements

Prospective scholarship candidates must first apply to Baylor by creating an Admission & Enrollment (A & E) Portal Account. From there, all Upper School applicants can complete their Baylor Scholarship Form on the Admission Checklist.

Once the form is submitted, scholarship applicants will be prompted to complete a Baylor Scholarship Essay and request an additional recommendation on their Admission Checklist. In order to be considered for a scholarship, candidates must complete the following within their A & E Portal:

Additionally, in the state of Tennessee, Baylor is required to submit information to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) for any student receiving tuition assistance. As a result, all scholarship candidates must also apply for tuition assistance through the Clarity Financial Aid platform by December 15.

Please note: any financial award exceeding a family’s qualifying amount will render a student ineligible to compete in TSSAA Varsity athletic competitions. For a student to become eligible, the TSSAA states that families can only receive up to their qualifying amount determined by Clarity. Student-athletes who accept more than their qualifying amount are eligible to compete in non-TSSAA sanctioned athletic competition (e.g. rowing, swimming, etc.), Junior Varsity athletic competitions, and may practice, scrimmage, and travel with Varsity teams.

Sample of Scholarship Opportunities

Baylor has over 50 named scholarship funds designated for prospective Upper School students with a diverse set of passions, achievements, and backgrounds.  Below is a small sample of the types of scholarship opportunities Baylor affords prospective students:

  • Need-based scholarship for an academically superior young person.

  • For as many as 12 scholars who are mindful of the Apostle's Creed in their daily lives.

  • For a student who exemplifies the Baylor spirit in all that he or she does; preference is given to a student who loves and is active in the outdoors.

  • Scholars chosen based on well-roundedness.  Intended to be a full scholarship, and financial aid will not necessarily be a criterion in their selection.

  • Granted on the basis of a student's honor, character, commitment, and diligence.  The recipient must also be committed to participate in extra-curricular activities.

  • For a child or grandchild of an alumnus who might otherwise be able to attend.

Note: As each named scholarship becomes available upon graduation of its previous recipient, any given scholarship may not be available during the current admission application cycle.  All families pursuing the Baylor Scholarship Program, however, should follow the steps outlined in the "Baylor Scholarship Process & Requirements" section above.
