When Tracy Miller talks with her Upper School Latin students about language and syntax, she is sharing a passion that started when she took Latin in high school in West Chester, Ohio. “I knew I wanted to major in classics in college, so I learned Greek then and also took some German. I've been working on Dutch for six years, and have started teaching myself Swedish. Eventually, I hope to know a little of all of the Germanic and Romance languages.”

Tracy earned a BA in classics from Hanover College, Hanover, Ind. and an MA, also in classics, from Vanderbilt University. “My many excellent Latin and Greek teachers have inspired me to get into teaching. They all had very unique personalities and I wanted to be an eccentric academic just like them.” Tracy’s many interests indicate that she has, at least, met the goal of being unique.

She makes polymer clay jewelry, which she sells on the website etsy.com and at craft fairs. She recently started sewing her own clothes, she’s a runner, and she loves to travel. “I studied abroad in Leuven, Belgium in college and it changed my life. My favorite places to go in Europe are Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, and Italy. I enjoy visiting the American West and Southwest as well. I hope to hit all of the national parks eventually.”

In addition to the joy of sharing her love of language with students, Tracy is happy at Baylor because of the great variety of personalities around campus. She is impressed with the many ways in which students and teachers can pursue their academic interests and take advantage of so many educational experiences outside of the classroom.

It’s an ideal campus for Tracy, who wants to do it all. “I'm always trying to learn something new or improve at what I'm already doing.”
