Biography

Callie Caperton teaches World History 1 and AP United States History.  She spent her childhood in Virginia where she was passionate about learning.  She first attended Indiana University to complete a Bachelor of Science in ballet with a minor in history.  After pursuing her undergraduate degree, Callie danced professionally with the American Folk Ballet Company, and she taught dance for Ballet Tennessee, Chattanooga Ballet, Barking Legs and other dance studios.  She started her teaching career after obtaining a second bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga in Secondary Studies with a concentration in history.  She began at Westside Middle School in Whitfield County, Georgia where she taught eighth grade social studies and eighth grade reading.  Callie’s second teaching job landed her at GPS where she just finished her 25th year of teaching.  During her time at GPS, she taught in the middle and upper school and focused on United States History with a side of Ancient Civilizations, Social Justice in Action and Global Cultures. Callie made a significant impact at GPS and was selected as the upper school “teacher of the year” in 2012.  She completed a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska in history.
