MA, University of California, Riverside
PHD, University of California, Riverside
Emily has worked with students of most all ages and achievement levels, but she enjoys teaching high school students best of all.
Before coming to Baylor, she taught college writing at Southern Adventist University and the University of California, Riverside, but she has also worked with gifted middle-school students in the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth summer programs.
Emily joined Teach for America after college and moved from Chattanooga to Los Angeles, where she spent three years teaching at Locke High School and witnessed one of the nation’s first public-to-charter-school transformations. She has also, improbably, interned with the State Department’s Africa Affairs Bureau and DJ-ed for Chattanooga’s classical music station, WSMC.
Emily is married to Rob deCarvalho and they have two children, Lily and Alec.
