Active Learning and Individualized Instruction

Our Middle School Head Emmie Treadwell works with a dedicated group of 30 Middle School faculty members to create a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for children.

Our faculty understand that students this age are not passive learners – they need to learn by doing rather than by just being told. That's why science is based on experiments, art is based on production, English and history/social science are based on discussion, and math and languages are taught so students learn to apply concepts to real life situations.

The Middle School program is also designed to offer a wide variety of academic, leadership, athletic and enrichment offerings, ensuring that each child succeeds and thrives in personal areas of strength. Small classes allow teachers to challenge children to reinforce areas that need improvement, while encouraging children to pursue their strengths.

"There is a resource for everything a Middle School student could need here at Baylor. Every child is known and loved."  – Emmie Treadwell, Middle School Head

Building Community

  • As the main point of entry to Baylor School, the sixth grade typically attracts students from 25 – 30 area schools. Therefore, a great deal of thought and attention is dedicated to transitioning them into the community through class trips, advisory groups, athletic teams and enrichment activities.
  • The program also provides opportunities for parents and families to come together. Fall football tailgates, book clubs, art shows, and concerts serve as venues to strengthen the connections among Baylor parents and families.

“In three years as a Baylor Middle Schooler, my son has never said that he's had a good day at Baylor. He's only used the word great. And I try to peel that back a little; there's always something that he can point to. It was a teacher. It was an experience with a class. It's always something great.”A Middle School Parent

Building Community

Everyone in Middle School joins a “spirit team” that is just one way we create a close community. All year long, as you show your school spirit, you can earn points for your team by participating in fun events or attending games and performances.
