What Parents Should Know

Above all, the writing center serves the Baylor writer. One writing tutor, Geoff Millener, explains how the writing center "approaches tutoring on a person-to-person, individual basis, focusing on each person's ways of learning." All services of the writing center are free and open to all students.

The Baylor Writing Center serves students though both walk-in hours and scheduled appointments. Students can use the Center without an appointment during HELP periods Monday through Wednesday and on Friday. On Thursday, "walk-ins" are during E period. These times are good for students who need help at the last minute or have questions requiring short answers. If a writer has more substantial work, he or she should schedule a 25-minute appointment by using the signup sheet on the door of Trustee 8. That said, please note that not all appointments are voluntary because several students are required to attend weekly appointments. Deans, advisers, and teachers, for example, may have students work weekly in the writing center to gain additional support for and experience with writing. As well, students failing the written portion of the freshman and sophomore competency tests must work with writing center tutors to prepare for retesting.
