In Baylor's residential program, the expectation to rise to the school's academic rigors is matched by the growth that comes with boarding students living and learning on their own. The boarding experience in itself gives boarders a headstart on the challenging transition to higher education, providing them with the opportunities to become more independent, self-confident, better experienced at time management and study habits, and better prepared to make decisions on their own. Just as Baylor's day students do, our boarding students gain a wealth of academic support from teachers as well as their faculty advisers. As boarders, however, they get the additional assistance of each dormitory's student academic prefects, who are part of a fairly new initiative that gives students the opporutnity to use their unique skills to contribute to the life of their dorm communities. Our academic prefects facilitate study skill sessions and peer tutoring, the operation of dormitory study rooms, and attendance at study hall and "exam prep" sessions.
Weekend and Daily Activities
There are two malls, five movie theaters, roller skating, paintball, galleries, coffeehouses, boutiques, horseback riding and hundreds of other things to do within twenty minutes of campus, and our Student Activities team takes full advantage of these incredible resources by scheduling events and activities throughout the week and especially on weekends. Students are encouraged to check their email and to stop by the Student Center for updates on activities and outings. Plus, our Student Activities staff is more than happy to help students organize an event or activity that meets their interests!
Location, location, location
As if our amazing campus isn't enough, Baylor is fortunate to be located only three miles from a downtown area that includes movie theatres, art galleries, laid-back coffee houses, and enough restaurants to make choosing a delicious dilemma.
